I thought I would blog/vent/process a little about my family's last month and our absence at Race for the Cure. I spent some time (however, not as much as I wish I could have) volunteering for the race and had big plans of doing the family run like last year. But as the race approached I just wasn't able to make myself go.
My mom is doing so much better this year than last year. Last year at the race was possibly the worst day she has had in her entire cancer treatment so far. We all enjoyed the experience of the race and the encouragement that it provided for my mom, but honestly I think the memory of her being so ill that day was hard to forget.
Also, we just found out that my mom's best friend, and my second mother is very sick. Jetty been a part of my family since before I was born and is considered family. She calls me her daughter and Walker her grandbaby, so when I found out she was ill it was devastating. Through the process of a few weeks and many tests we discovered that she has melanoma that has metastasized to her lungs and brain. Walker and I went to as many of these appointments as possible with her to offer our support. Since she is seeing the same doctors as my mom they are very familiar with Walker. He has a nickname there of "chunky monkey" and they bring him toys and juice. I am still trying to decide whether this should depress me or if it is sweet. I never thought that me, or my son, would be buddy-buddy with an oncologist office...
I am relieved to have April over and to see what healing May can bring. Jetty has recently had surgery to help with the brain lesions and is going to hopefully start chemotherapy treatment by the end of this week. I am confident that she is in good care and will continue to get better. My mom's job will slow significantly down this month and give her more time to rest. And, also summer is coming :)
Hopefully, next year we will all be at the race and offering our support to the many affected by cancer.
So sorry to hear about Jetty. We will be praying for you guys. I know how much she means to you guys.
